Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean, Defends Marriage

-
(The above video is a post-pageant interview of Miss California on the MSNBC network.)
-
From the outset I want to make something clear; I’m not in any way promoting the Miss USA Pageant, or other competitions like it. Additionally, I’m not advocating involvement in pageants.
-
That being said, on April 19, 2009, the annual Miss USA Pageant took place at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. During the pageant Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean, was asked a question regarding the legalization of gay-marriage. The end result was that she did not support same-sex unions. This led to “boos” from the audience and possibly cost her the crown.
-
Now, I would have liked her to have been more articulate and direct in her answer against homosexual unions. Considering the situation, however, I understand that it might be easier said than done. In that light, I think that she did hold true to her convictions. Clearly she should be commended.
-
As many of you know Prejean is a student at San Diego Christian College, in (you guessed it) San Diego, CA. SDCC is actually a rather biblically conservative school. Also, it is affiliated with Shadow Mountain Community Church, which you might recognize as being pastored by Dr. David Jeremiah.
-
Some feel that it is quite interesting that Prejean (who has been very open about her Christian faith) was the one chosen to answer the “gay marriage” question from pageant judge, and gay-activist blogger, Perez Hilton. I don't put much stock in that. After all, she did have to draw her questioner from a container.

-

The most concerning issue here is the negative reaction that Prejean received from the crowd and from much of the media. In case you have been living under a rock for the last decade or so, times are changing folks! It is not that gross sin is something new to world history (Sodom and Gomorrah, the Roman orgy culture, Revolutionary France…), but the mass acceptance of it is new to America.
-
I realize that Californians did uphold the definition of marriage, as being between one man and one woman, last fall. But barely! The vote was 52.1% to 47.9% if you recall. Also, same-sex marriage is currently legal in two states: Massachusetts (remember, where the Pilgrims landed) and Connecticut. And it will be legal in Iowa on April 27, 2009 and Vermont on September 1, 2009.
-
An accounting of the situation will show that: God has been taken out of the schools, abortion of unborn babies is legal, drug use (and the violence associated with it) is rampant, stewardship of the financial resources that God has given us is pitiful, church attendance is down, Americas support for Israel is weakening, and yes, homosexuality is becoming accepted increasingly. I’m not trying to go on a pre-millennial rant here, but things are getting worse people!
-
I think that these verses from Romans can be instructive as to the current condition of America.
-
Rom. 1:18-23 “ For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.”
-
Rom. 1:24, 25 “ Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.”
-
Rom. 1:26-27 “ For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.”
-
Rom. 1:28-31 “And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.”
-
I know that whatever God allows will come to be. But, I also know that I (and other Christians) will have to give an account for whether we stood in an upright manner for the truth, or not (Acts 10:42; 1 Pet. 4:5; 2 Cor. 5:10). May God give me, and you, the strength to fight the good fight (2 Tim. 4:7).
